We believe that success, just like growing a strong crop, is most likely to be achieved with the right environmental factors and inputs. Our business is a product of the communities in which we operate (our environment) and we strive to support the individuals and organizations that make up the root system of those communities. We are driven to thank, help, educate, feed, and contribute financially to those in need. The following are just a few of the things we do to give back:
- Support Katie’s Krops, a national movement that empowers youth to grow a healthy end to hunger one vegetable garden at a time, by sponsoring and hosting its annual camp for their grantees at our headquarters.
- Financial and in-kind, support to the Rockin’ Appalachian Mom Project (RAMP) in Inez, KY through donations to the local food pantry and the installation of a community garden.
- Supports local, county, and state efforts and programs to increase economic development in our area.
- WPR sits on the board for several school district programs including: Lexington School District One Technology Center, Lexington School District One Education Foundation, the Lexington Technology School Future Farmers of America Advisory Committee, the Pelion High School Agri-business Center Advisory Committee, and the Pelion High School Future Farmers of America Advisory Committee
- Conduct an annual Health & Safety Fair for all of our employees and family members to provide health screenings, health education, and child safety practices.
- Support youth development through internships and job co-ops with local high school and university students.
- Partner with local schools for events such as Career Day and Farm to School programs educating and promoting healthy eating.
- Offer English-As-A-Second-Language (ESL) classes on-site in conjunction with the State Department of Education and the Lexington Applied Technology Center.
- Support Harvest Hope Food Bank with in-kind donations and by serving on the Board of Directors.
